Authorities in Cherokee County are investigating a tragic case of animal abuse. Witnesses say two bull terriers belonging to Clint Denson of Canton were thrown over the McCain Road overpass on the morning of July 3, hitting the pavement 40 feet below.

One dog was dead at the scene. The other suffered a broken leg that may have to be amputated.
Denson says the dogs, Bailey and Gracie, got away from him that morning after being spooked by a cat. They ran into some nearby woods where someone picked them up, severely beat them, then tossed them from the overpass.

When caught, the offender could face felony animal cruelty charges.
