Investigators say they suspect another case of domestic violence in the city, where a home was set on fire and a family dog's throat slashed.

About 5:00 on the morning of June 21, firefighters were called to a house in the 700 block of West First Avenue. They found flames pouring out of one of the bedrooms. Inside they found a dead dog, but no one home.

The house was locked, but the interior was ransacked, with the furniture sliced. Investigators say the evidence points toward a fire being set on the bed in that bedroom.

Firefighters say the home is owned by Demarco and Teresa Buckholt. Neighbors say the two had been fighting for days.

"They do have it reported that the house was secure," said Deputy Chief David Eddins of the Albany Fire Dept. "In our investigation process we did find that the Police had been out earlier in the night because there had been some arguing at that house."

Neighbors say the pit bull mix was Teresa Buckholt's dog. Another pit bull was chained in the back yard. Animal control took that dog, because it had shown signs of viciousness.

No one has been arrested in this case, but an investigation into cruelty to animals and arson is underway. Both are felonies.
