A seven week old puppy has a cut on its head and bumps and bruises all over its body after being thrown from a second story balcony at a Fort Myers apartment complex. Two teenage girls, who allegedly threw the puppy off the balcony, could face animal cruelty charges if investigators can find them.
For the last few days, a stray puppy has been roaming around the Sabal Palms apartment complex.
"It was a cute puppy, it had the nicest little white paws," said Eric Watson.
Watson noticed the dog hasn't been around since June 27. After looking into it, he couldn't believe what his kids witnessed.
"I think it's very tragic they shouldn't be doing a thing like that," said Watson.
A teenage girl was dared by her friend to throw a 7 week old puppy off a balcony. The puppy survived, but has a noticeable cut on its head.
"I'm sure the dog will be traumatized for quite awhile," said Scott Trebatoski of Lee County Animal Services.
And it gets a little nervous.
"She'll make someone a good dog eventually, once she gets past her fears," said Trebatoski.
After a little coaxing, the dog with no name is doing much better than expected.
"It's just pure luck the dog didn't die or end up with severe problems that would last forever," said Trebatoski.
Investigators want to find the two teenage girls.
"We're looking at definite animal cruelty charges," said Trebatoski.
Witnesses think that's the least that should be done.
"I think she should go to jail," said Shanteria Gordan.
"I think she at least needs to go to juvenile detention center because she's old enough to know what she was doing," said Watson.
Once the girls are found, the State Attorney's Office will review the case and press charges if necessary.
If you have any information you are asked to call Lee County Animal Services.
The puppy will go up for adoption once the investigation is complete. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
