Dog-fighting bust - drugs, weapons seized
Indianapolis, IN (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jun 27, 2006
County: Marion

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Four men were being held on the evening of June 27 after a large drug bust on the city's east side. It's a first-strike in a major counteroffensive against street violence in the neighborhood.

Heavily armed police went into four homes in the 200 block of Parkview Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. They had been told that the homes were protected by barricades and booby traps.

East district officers, the Indianapolis Police SWAT team, and U.S. Marshals surrounded the homes and used loudspeakers to order the people inside to surrender.

Investigators said they seized weapons, ammunition, marijuana, cocaine, electronic scales and thousands of dollars in cash from the homes.

Investigators also said they took as many as eight pit bulls, which neighbors told 6News were used for dog fighting.

Police said the homes are in a neighborhood where drug dealing runs rampant and guns are everywhere.

Investigators said the men are from Detroit and moved into the neighborhood about a year ago.

Detectives said the men tried to flush cash down a toilet at one of the homes. They recovered about $3,000 and found body armor in one of the homes.
