Kitten thrown against wall and killed
Naples, FL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jun 18, 2006
County: Collier

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Emaus Lansiquot

Collier County deputies say a kitten was thrown against a wall so hard that it was killed. Collier County investigators say the case of animal cruelty started out as a case of domestic violence.

Mike Taylor said he cannot wipe away the memory of what he saw Sunday, June 18th, night.

"I've never seen a poor defenseless kitten violated like that," said Taylor.

Taylor's neighbor knocked on his door and when he saw that she was in tears, he rushed into her condo. That is when he saw her kitten struggling to survive.

"Its face, its jaw looked broken, it was bleeding on the floor," said Taylor.

Taylor tried to rescue the animal but it was already too late. The Collier County Sheriff's Office report described what led to Taylor's discovery of the animal.

Apparently, the kitten's owner was fighting with her boyfriend, Emaus Lansiquot. As the argument escalated, the investigators say that Lansiquot picked up the kitten and reportedly threw it against the wall killing the animal.

Four young children also witnessed the incident.

"I could barely sleep last night. We are animal lovers here. I think what the guy did, he should definitely pay," said Taylor.

Lansiquot has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

"I can't imagine anyone hurting an animal like that. There is nothing cuter that an eight-week-old kitten. It's just the cutest thing in the world," said Taylor.

Experts say this case of animal abuse really highlights a growing problem in which people take out their frustration on the family pet during domestic disputes.

Lansiquot posted a $2,500 bond on Monday and is out of jail but he is expected to appear in court in a couple of weeks. If he is convicted of felony animal cruelty he could be sentenced to five years in prison.
