more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.
Case #9036 Rating: 2.5 out of 5
300 birds seized Parma, OH (US)Incident Date: Friday, Oct 31, 2003 County: Cuyahoga
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Dolores T. Buckley
Dolores Buckley had 300 birds (parrots, parakeets and others), 15 flying squirrels, two hedgehogs and two chinchillas removed from her shelter for orphaned animals because authorities claim the animals were living in unsanitary conditions.
Buckley has accused Animal Warden Sam Roe of illegally seizing her animals. She has also filed suit last week charging the city animal shelter sold her animals for a total of $12,000 and failing to share the proceeds with her as required by the law.
The city's chief assistant law director, Anthony Zampedro, said Roe and police acted legally. A warrant was obtained by the police and Buckley gave the city written permission to take the animals.
The warden is under investigation by a special prosecutor for his handling of shelter money. Sam Roe was suspended for two weeks last year for depositing thousands of dollars from the shelter in a personal account.
Buckley pleaded guilty last November in Parma Municipal Court to animal nuisance charges and was fined $100.
The only reason Buckley signed the release giving the animals to the shelter was because the police threatened to take away her personal pets of a dog, five cats and two turtles if she refused to sign the release. References« OH State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Cuyahoga County, OH
