Petland pet store cited for neglected puppy Iowa City, IA (US)Incident Date: Tuesday, May 30, 2006 County: Johnson
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Petland
Iowa City animal care officers cited Petland for animal neglect after they allegedly found a puppy in an unclean kennel.
Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center director Misha Goodman said officers on May 30 found a boxer puppy at the 1851 Lower Muscatine Road store in a cage littered with "lots of feces and urine."
Goodman said officers went to Petland for a report of a rabies vaccination violation. That's when they found the boxer puppy, she said.
This is the first time the store has been cited, Goodman said.
Petland owner Thomas Roffman said the dirty cage was a "terrible" oversight on the part of a new, inexperienced employee. The puppy, he said, is doing fine.
Animal neglect is a simple misdemeanor punishable by a minimum fine of $50. References
