Renee Rogers has a warning for other pet owners in her north-side neighbourhood after her cat came home badly burned, her fur singed and whiskers burnt right off.

Basically, it looked like she was thrown into a fire pit, Rogers said.

And she wreaked of a camp fire.

Pariss near-fatal brush with fire happened about two weeks ago, on a Tuesday night when she didnt return to her home at 152 A Avenue and 105 Street.

Its a sin, she said. I was really shocked. I couldnt believe she came home looking like this.

Rogers figures her grey and white cat, who is almost one year old, didnt fall into a fire on her own and must have been thrown in.

She doesnt know exactly what happened to her pet that night, but when Paris returned home at noon the next day, the terrified creature darted right under Rogerss bed.

Pariss fur was singed, her whiskers were missing and a handprint-sized spot on her left front side was so badly burned she required surgery to pull skin over the portion of skin that had died.

Pariss vet bill has soared to almost $4,000.

She went home earlier this week, but fell off a chair and split her stitches. Paris is now recovering at Northgate Veterinary Hospital, 12429 97 St., where she will be for about two more weeks.

Im really hoping if she just stays put in the cage that everything will be OK, Rogers said.

Paris might still need to have her leg amputated.

Rogers put posters about the incident up in her neighbourhood.

At first I was really pissed off and wanted to know who did it. But now its more about awareness, she said. So (my neighbours) can keep an eye on their own pets.

A communications co-ordinator with the Edmonton Humane Society said Rogers should report the incident so an animal protection officer can investigate.

Thats shocking if it was anything other than accidental, Diane Shannon said.
