Ducks found mutilated
Eueless, TX (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, May 31, 2006
County: Tarrant

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Euless police are searching for the person who killed and mutilated nearly a dozen ducks.

The animal cruelty case is centered on a golf course on Soto Grande Boulevard.

Eleven were killed in a week's time.

"At first we thought it might be a bobcat or dog," said Patrick Blair, a golf course worker. "Then we started getting reports of people seeing other people walking around out here late at night. Then we started finding ducks, baby ducks, and bad things happening to ducks."

The deaths all happen in the early morning darkness.

The mutilated ducks were ducklings or nesting females.

"The person or persons have apparently beheaded the ducks and what they do is place the head and the animal, under the bird, with the eggs. I don't know if this is a sign they're trying to make it obvious to whoever finds the duck this duck was killed. It wasn't injured by an animal," said Detective Tony Burnett of the Euless Police Department.

The problem police have is this: space, lots of space. And there are no lights. So police have no witnesses to the killings.

What police do have is the backing of the Humane Society.

It's offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the ducks' killer.
