Routine checks by Bonham Police and Animal Control agents revealed several malnourished and mistreated pitbulls at a home in Bonham. According to Bonham officials, the city is not zoned for kenneling. The owners were arrested Thursday, June 1.
When the owners of the home admitted to breeding the dogs, that caused authorities to keep an even closer look on the home.
This morning when patrol passed through the area looking for junk cars, an officer noticed several starved pitbulls.
19-year-old Joseph Williamson and 27-year-old Jennifer Flowers were arrested for not feeding the 11 dogs, giving them water, or providing proper shelter.
The engaged couple moved into the home on Oriental Street in March, but have been without running water for a month now.
It's a city ordinance for the dogs to have city tags and rabies tags, which none of them had.
"None of the dogs had any water that was apparent," said Tory Ball, the Chief SPCA Investigator. "Very few of them had some sort of food source. They're chained throughout the backyard as well as living inside the house. Most of them are living in their own feces."
The Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came to pick up the dogs and take them to McKinney to be assessed by a vet.
The dogs also suffered from hair loss, and some type of skin disease.
Williamson and Flowers will both face 11 counts of cruelty to animal charges.
It is a state felony charge, carrying one year in jail, and up to a $1,000 fine. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
