AKC suspended breeder using alias to register dogs Allentown, PA (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Mar 31, 1999 County: Lehigh
Disposition: Not Charged
Person of Interest: Derbe Eckhart
In 1999, Derbe Eckhart became licensed by the state, as proprietor of a kennel he was operating at Storage USA in Allentown, and then unsuccessfully attempted to set up a kennel in Weisenberg Township.
Instead, Eckhart became proprietor of Almost Heaven , an existing kennel in Upper Milford Township just outside Emmaus. Eckhart was by then going by the name of Skip Eckhart, and the new name slipped past the attention of the AKC, which permitted him to register dogs despite its 30-year ban.
When the AKC finally figured out that Skip and Derbe were one and the same, it sent out 244 letters notifying people who had bought dogs from Almost Heaven Kennels, that their pets no longer were registered. References« PA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Lehigh County, PA
