A passenger was charged on the night of May 26 with animal cruelty for allegedly throwing a three-week old kitten out the window of a moving car near the Yacht Club Bridge, police said. At least three witnesses gave a description of the suspect to police, and helped the kitten until a representative from the Humane Society arrived to arrange for emergency care.

Police identified the suspect as Eddie Ray Fisher, 40, of 606 Lime Street East, Tarpon Springs. He was a charged with one count of animal cruelty, a third degree felony.

"An approximately 3 week old kitten was in the back seat of the vehicle, when Eddie Ray Fisher reached back and grabbed the kitten's leg," police said. "Mr. Fisher then threw the kitten out of the open, passenger side window of the vehicle and onto the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge." Police say when they arrived, the kitten was quite lethargic. The Humane Society of Pinellas responded and took the kitten to the AA Animal Emergency in Palm Harbor for assessment and treatment.

Police took Fisher to the Pinellas County jail where he was held on $5,000 bond.
