A 3-year-old Clydesdale trying to recuperate from shotgun wounds probably wasn't injured in a hunting accident, according to a state Department of Natural Resources official. "It apparently had been shot," said Lt. Col. Van McCarty of the DNR. "There were signs of pellet entries on the horse -- probably a shotgun-type ammunition."

Jack Moore is offering a $500 reward to anybody who can give information about what happened to his son's horse one day last month in a pasture at Mount Lebanon Church and Barrett roads.

The horse, whose name is Lady, took birdshot in the side, Moore said. An 18-inch area of flesh was peeled off her and you could see her ribs, he said. He figures she tried to run away, because she was also shot in the other side. She lost the foal she was carrying. "She's lost a lot of weight," he said. But she's doing "extremely well" given what she's been through. she's receiving antibiotics daily. Moore said he thinks the shooting was intentional, because there were no woods around. He said his property is posted "No hunting" and "No trespassing."
He said he thinks Lady was shot out of "pure meanness."

McCarty said an officer responded to the scene after Moore reported the incident. "It was not, from the officer's view of the situation, a hunting-related incident," McCarty said.
