An Albany man faces animal cruelty charges after 14 dogs were found on his property in Charleston living in deplorable conditions, according to Undersheriff James Smith of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. The dogs, owned by Dake Fu, 25, of 39 Briar Ave. in Albany, were discovered after Fu's neighbors contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff about yelping dogs at 121 Toback Road in Charleston.
When police arrived, they found the feces-covered animals locked up in the house's garage and in a storage shed behind the residence with no ventilation or sunlight, police said. Police estimate the dogs, whose food was covered in mold, had been living in squalor for at least two months. They are being cared for at the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and are expected to make a full physical recovery from their ordeal.
Fu told police he planned to move to the residence within two weeks, Smith said. Fu turned himself into Montgomery County police at 5 p.m. Wednesday on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. He posted $500 bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and will next appear in the Town of Charleston Court June 22.
