A Mountlake Terrace man is facing a felony charge for allegedly beating his dog to death during an apparent drunken rage. Randall W. Brown, 20, was intoxicated when he called police to his home April 29 to report that he'd been bitten by his German shepherd, Diesel, deputy prosecutor Janice Albert said in Snohomish County Superior Court papers.
The dog was dying when aid crews arrived. Brown had a "minor" injury to his thumb, according to court papers. A neighbor told police that he saw Brown beating the dog with a broom handle. A necropsy showed Diesel was an otherwise healthy dog that succumbed to blunt force trauma that left him bleeding from the ears and around his lungs.
Albert said that when police later arrested Brown he asked, "Is this necessary? It was just a dog."
Brown is charged with first-degree animal cruelty.
