Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Eugenia Anne Brown
A Trion county woman is out on a $7,000 bond after being arrested on March 14, 2006 on 36 counts of cruelty to animals.
The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control launched an investigation into why 36 dogs were kept at 154 Dickeyville Rd. "I observed offender get out of a vehicle and enter the fenced in yard where she quickly led a large pack of dogs around to the back of the residence and led some of them inside the house.", Deputy Mike Howard stated. Some of the dogs had little hair because of mange that had infested their bodies. Some had open and bleeding wounds. "Several of the dogs were bleeding from open wounds and appeared to be severely neglected," Deputy Howard stated.
Animal Control Officer Joe Johnson Sr., says he has tried working with the dog's owner, Eugenia Anne Brown, 49, of the same address. "I've been working on and off again on this case for two years. I've had a hard time catching her at home. She goes from place to place."
The small Dickeyville house was so filthy, the smell of dogs could be noticed down the street. Neighbors had complained not only about the odor, but also the barking gang of canines. One neighbor commented that Brown did not live at the house and would occasionally be seen bringing food and water to the house. Most of the fenced yard was dirt and excrement. Inside the house, according to officials, was a sea of excrement covering all the floors. Several bags of garbage were located outside the fence and contained even more excrement, according to Animal Control Officer Joe Johnson, Sr.
"Further investigation by officers around the residence revealed a number of dogs in different areas of the yard, all of which appeared to be in poor condition," Deputy Howard reported. "Offender stated to officer, prior to her arrest, that she owned the property where the animals were found and that she either owned or was responsible for the care of all of them.
The Animal Control Dept is seeking help from the Summerville Veterinary Clinic to sort out which dogs can be saved adn which wil have to be put to sleep. One dog was covered in so much mange that it had very little hair and part of it's intestines were hanging out of its rectum. Another dog was wrapped in a dirty rag type garment. Johnson said he hopes that some of the animals can be saved and not have to be put to sleep. References« GA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Chattooga County, GA
