A suburban Cleveland couple made a surprising discovery on the morning of May 18. An unidentified man placed five cages containing 18 cats and kittens in the driveway of their Lakewood home and then left.

Katie Day filed a complaint with the Lakewood animal control officer, who is turning the abandonment case over to police.

Day is taking care of the cats until foster or permanent homes can be found. Some of the cats appear to be ill, and others have ear mites.
