Charges were pending against a mother and son Tuesday after six cats were found living in a home with animal carcasses, animal control officials said. The cats were found inside a home on Indigo St. on the north side Monday morning, authorities said. Six cats were found dead in the home and fecal matter was on the floors, officials said.
The mother was giving her 22-year-old son money to pay for food to feed the animals, investigators said. Animal Control officials said they found little food and water in the home. The air was also had dangerous ammonia levels from the animal waste, authorities said. No one was living in the home with the animals, authorities said. Neighbors told Animal Control the original owner died a few months ago.
The woman and her son were not identified Tuesday. They could face animal cruelty charges, officials told News 4 WOAI.
The surviving cats suffered from severe breathing problems and had to be euthanized, authorities said. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
