Carbondale police are investigating what appears to be an intentional cat drowning in Roaring Fork Village. The two suspects are ages 4 and 7, said Carbondale police officer David Moreno.

"They live in the vicinity of Wheel Circle," Moreno said.

Moreno said the suspects can't be charged with a crime because of their age, but results of the investigation will be sent to the district attorney. The name of the cat's owner was not available from the police, but a neighbor said he lives on Wheel Circle. The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said the cat was founded in a yard shared with the cat's owner. A friend who was over for dinner noticed the cat laying dead on May 13, 2006. "It was soaked in water," the man said.

Wheel Circle is located west of Eighth Street, and south of Weaver Cemetery, in a part of town that was first developed in the 1970s. "This is pretty disturbing," the neighbor said. "I have two cats ... Serial killers (animal abuse), that's the first sign."
