Bridget Boaz, 48, was living in what has been called "a giant litter box." The Indianapolis police received a call about 11:30 a.m. saying the home's only resident, Bridget Boaz, a nurse was distraught.

When the police arrived at the home and saw the living conditions, the animal control unit was summoned to the residence.

Animal control officers took 42 animals, including cats, dogs and birds from the Northside home.

Boaz was not charged, but she was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital for observation.

The animals that were seized will be eventually returned to Boaz or placed for adoption.

None of the animals appeared to be suffering from any serious health problems.

The animal control officials say they receive similar calls to remove dozens of animals from homes every couple of months.

"It's sad to say, but you have a lot of these houses in the Indianapolis area where people decided to take in stray animals or they can't say no and they end up with more than they can handle, and you end up with this situation right here."

It was said the house was like a "giant litter box," the animals had apparently been kept inside the home.

The neighbors of Boaz were aware she had been taking in strays, but they were reluctant to turn her in.
