It's another case of animal cruelty....this time in Escambia County, Alabama. But there's a happy ending in this case....as a group of neighbors alert authorities. Humane enforcement officers say it's a story of a man with bad intentions....and luckily....a bad shot.

Meet Annie Oakley. She looks like a spry puppy today....but four months ago....her future didn't look so bright. Renee Jones/Escambia County Humane Society: "She had bled a lot, there was a lot of infection already trying to set in, and obviously she was traumatized beyond words."

Animal cruelty officers say this man, Marlon Thead of rural Atmore shot at the stray dog three times....when it was on his property on January 8th. Janet Beall/Humane Enforcement Officer: "Of course he denied the whole thing, he didn't do anything, he didn't shoot any dogs. of course, everybody else, four people saw him do it." Thead refused to do an on camera interview, and referred us to his attorney in Brewton...who was unavailable for comment. But if convicted of shooting the dog, Thead could face up to ten years in prison.
