Concern is rising in Roane County about the possibility that operators of a puppy farm are knowing selling dogs with Parvo, a highly contagious viral disease that often kills puppies. Volunteer TV's Eric Waddell was the only reporter there when a lawsuit was filed in Roane County in hopes of stopping an outbreak before it starts.

An ad in the Knoxville News Sentinel looks like many others, claiming to sell registered puppies, but a lawsuit filed in Roane County claims that the people on the other end of this ad are allegedly selling pets that are not really registered, but more importantly, they are allegedly knowingly selling dogs that are infected with Parvo. "Come to find out, her CKC papers that were given to me is actually not her. They are her mother who is actually in Lancing, Tennessee. She is the one that is operating this mill," said Ashley Harris, who says her puppy died of Parvo.

According to Harris, she told the owners of the puppy mill that her Chihuahua, when she bought it, was infected with Parvo and died. She says warned the people who sold the dog to her, but the woman on the other end of the line allegedly hung up, ignoring the warning. Sources near the situation tell Volunteer TV News that the sale of the potentially sick dogs hasn't stopped. "He gave me all the wrong information, wouldn't give me his last name, gave me a fake first name. I found out who he was. He said his only response was sue me all you want, that's fine," Harris said.

Harris is pushing to try and get a new law passed, which would require breeders to get shots for all puppies sold in Tennessee. "If you go there and there are puppies, and they are dying of Parvo or Distemper, there is food water and shelter that is fine. I don't agree with that," Harris said. Local animal rights workers agree with the idea. "It has got her mad enough that she is rocking the boat, she is getting people in the right positions that can maybe make something happen," Bud Matsinger from the Humane Society said. Attempts to contact the defendants in the suit failed. A lawsuit, of course, gives only one side of a case. A hearing is scheduled for April 19, 2006.

**********If you suspect that your puppy came from the McCann's or the Matheson's, contact your veterinarian as well as the Kingston Police Department at (865) 376-2081. Authorities warn that the breeders are selling several different breeds of, not just Chihuahua.**************
