Hart, 44, faces charges stemming from authorities' reported discovery of as many as 53 cats languishing inside her Freemont Street home on Monday, March 6.

The Sarasota Sheriff's Office Animal Services section was contacted by the city of North Port Monday for assistance, after receiving calls that the animals were allegedly confined without sufficient food, water, exercise, or fresh air.

According to neighbors, the smell of cat urine and dander could be distinguished from as far away as the property's curb.

Hart was reportedly cooperative with Animal Services investigators. She admitted an inability to properly care for the animals and they were taken by Sheriff's Office Animal Services personnel.
