Deputies arrested a man on a complaint that he attacked a dog with a box cutter, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff�s Office said on May 3. A witness reported seeing Terry Bernard, 36, 14175 U.S. 190, Lot No. 102, beat the dog, deputies said. The witness later contacted parish Animal Control.

Deputies booked Bernard, who is living in a Federal Emergency Management Agency trailer park in the Hammond area, with aggravated cruelty to animals. Bernard also was wanted on two outstanding warrants, the Sheriff�s Office said.

Deputies learned from an animal-control official that Bernard cut the dog on the leg with the box cutter after beating the animal with the tool, the Sheriff�s Office said.

Bernard was released from Parish Jail on Tuesday after posting $500 bail.
