On April 1, 2002, a Douglas County officer received a report from a woman that her next door neighbor had thrown, using an overhand motion, an 8 week old puppy from the house off of the porch.

Corrmae L. Smith admitted to throwing the puppy out of the house because he had urinated inside of the house. Smith boxed the puppies up and commented to the officer that the puppies would be gone that night. When the officer questioned Smith as to what she was going to do with the puppies, Smith reportedly became verbally abusive towards him.

The officer issued Corrmae L. Smith a cruelty citation with a court appearance date of May 2, 2002. While the officer was still inside the residence he witnessed Smith handle another puppy in an aggressive manner. The officer then notified his supervisor who authorized him to obtain an impound order and remove the puppies from the home. The officer states that Smith was verbally abusive towards her kids, the puppies, as well as towards him.

Smith was convicted of animal cruelty and fined $100.00.
