A First Coast cat has been through some very rough times. He was found after being abandoned for days without food or water in a hot trailer. He had been left behind by his owners when they moved out.

When Clay County Animal Crime Detectives first got him, his collar had grown into the skin, leaving a big open wound in his neck and choking him. "Unfortunately people buy a pet and they put a collar on it when it's a kitten or a puppy and they don't ever check it again," said Detective Annie Henderson. "That's a common practice."

But the little cat fought to stay alive and now is doing much better. He even got a new name, Squeaky, because he now makes a squeaky noise when he meows. Now this strong Kitty is up for adoption. He is very loving and great with dogs according to his handlers.

Squeaky's former owners were found and are now under arrest. Barbara Jo Anne Petty and Donald Wallace Combs Jr. were charged with animal cruelty and neglect.
