Pit bull fatally shot with sawed off shotgun South Kingstown, RI (US)Incident Date: Monday, May 1, 2006 County: Washington
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Edgar Goulet
Police have charged a South Kingstown man with allegedly shooting his own dog. Police say 58-year-old Edgar Goulet shot his pit bull on May 1 and buried it in a shallow grave he dug in his backyard.
The pit bull -- called Sparky -- apparently ran into a neighbor's yard in the morning. Police say neighbors heard Goulet threatening to shoot the dog if he caught it.
Goulet was charged the morning of May 2 with killing an animal, firing in a contact area and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. He has been released on 40-thousand dollars personal recognizance bail and ordered to surrender any guns he owns.
Goulet says he shot the dog in self-defense. References« RI State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Washington County, RI
