Hoarding - 22 dogs seized
Franklin Square, NY (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Feb 21, 2003
County: Nassau

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: John Consolo

Twenty two dogs were found in a Franklin Square, Long Island house in deplorable conditions. The Town of Hempstead Police and the Nassau County SPCA went to the house after a contractor working on the property called them.

The dogs were found in an upstairs bedroom.  An official with the SPCA says the odor was so strong, officers needed a respirator to go into the room.

The owner of the house - 74-year-old John Consolo - was given three summonses for code violations.  The dogs were brought to the Hempstead Animal Shelter where they will be cleaned and put up for adoption.
