Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
A dog that was shot between the eyes by a burglar last week is expected to survive following surgery. Owner Eric Somers said he could not afford the $3,000 surgery to save 5-year-old Ruger, but doctors stepped in to find funding.
Dr. Lynda Rominger, Ruger's surgeon, and specialist Chris Wong knew they had little time. The bullet lodged in the chocolate Labrador's neck, making it difficult for the animal to breathe. The bullet missed Ruger's brain, but it did damage his voice box. Otherwise, it looks like the pet will make a strong recovery. The burglar left the house after shooting Ruger and did not steal anything, officials said. Police are using the bullet as a evidence in their investigation.
