Chicago police officials have revealed that a 15-year veteran of the force is under investigation after being charged with animal cruelty and neglect.

Officer Tracey Haywood was arrested at her South Side house last week and relieved of her police powers. The officers who went to her home said they found seven adult pit bulls, one adult Rottweiler, seven pit bull puppies and one dead pit bull.

Police spokesman David Bayless would not comment on whether the dogs may have been used in dogfights.
