Gardaí in Co Wicklow are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly slaughtered two puppies with a lump hammer before hanging the carcasses on a neighbour's door.

The incident allegedly happened in the Sycamore Drive estate in Newtownmountkennedy.

Wicklow County Council is also examining the case, while the Irish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals is believed to have launched its own investigation.
