Its a sad and disturbing case of animal abuse to report from Stanton Heights.

Pittsburgh Police are looking for a suspect in connection with a brutal animal abuse case that some are saying takes the crime of animal abuse to a whole new level.

It happened on Oranmore Street in Stanton Heights.

Police showed up to investigate an assault on an off-duty officer that had taken place a few hours earlier.

The officer was on his way to work, and was confronted and pepper sprayed by an irate motorist.

But, when authorities started going door to door, the case took a bizarre twist.

A strong odor coming from the back porch of a home led police to the badly decomposed body of what they first believed was human.

But, in fact, the remains were those of a large dog -- a pit bull-boxer.

The animal had been stabbed with a steak knife.

If that's not bad enough, someone had actually dressed the dog in human clothes.

Which consisted of a pair of tennis shoes, sports socks, a pair of blue jeans, tee-shirt, and a baseball hat, said Lt. Kevin Kraus of the Pittsburgh Police Dept. It appeared the dog had been executed, possibly shot in the head, we're not absolutely sure at this point, but, the dog had been assaulted fatally.

Police said the dog had socks, and Nike sneakers on it's rear paws and the jeans were positioned on top of the animal, as if he was actually wearing them.

The medical examiner's office will x-ray the dogs remains, to see if the animal sustained any bullet wounds in addition to that knife wound.

There are no arrests to report in this case as of yet.

KDKAs Ralph Iannotti said a domestic situation involving a woman who lived at that Stanton Heights home, and a boyfriend who was often seen there could be the motive for the crime.

Police also found marijuana plants in the backyard of the home where the dead dog was found.
