Sixteen wild animals, including bears and tigers, were rescued on April 20 from a Gonzales County residence by Houston officials, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Several agencies, including the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Houston Zoo, helped treat and move the animals, which included 11 bears, two tigers, two wild hogs and one macaw.

Officials said the animals have been owned since the early '80s and used in exhibits and performances. They lived in transport cages in a poultry barn for more than nine years. The animals barely had room to move, according to authorities.

The animals were seized under the Texas dangerous wild animal law, which sets standards for a person to maintain wild animals.

Nine dogs and six cats were also removed from the property.

The Houston Zoo took charge of two of the bears and one tiger. The SPCA took eight bears, the other tiger and hogs, and hopes to find them permanent homes in private sanctuaries.

Several of the animals have been placed in wildlife facilities.

The breakdown of animals seized is as follows:

2 Grizzly Bears, 25 years- both male
1 Kodiak Bear, 22 years- female
4 Black Bears,11 years, male, 11 years, female, 14 years male, 18 years female
2 Cinnamon Bears, 12 years female, 14 years male
2 Asiatic Bears, 30 years male, 15 years male
2 Tigers, 12 years male, 8 years male
