A case of reported abuse to animals has led to people picketing at the owner's home, even though all charges were dismissed.
Grayslake police officers responded to an alleged case of animal abuse, according to Police Chief Larry Herzog. They charged Cynthia Brust of Grayslake with animal abuse and issued a citation with a court date of April 17. Officers took the two Labradors into protective custody and placed them at the Save-a-Pet shelter on Fairfield Road.
The assistant state's attorney chose not to prosecute the case, however, so the dogs were free to return to their owners. They didn't find enough evidence to pursue the case, Herzog said.
Protesters concerned about the safety of the dogs picketed outside of Save-a-Pet on Saturday as the owner picked up the dogs. Some protesters then decided to also picket outside the residence of the owners.
Herzog said it is illegal to picket in a residential area.
