Two dogs left without food or water
Putnam Valley, NY (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Apr 11, 2006
County: Putnam

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Doris J. Piehler

A Putnam Valley woman was arrested on April 11, accused of leaving her two dogs home alone with no food or water, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department said. Doris Piehler, 43, was charged with two counts of animal neglect, the Sheriff's Department said.

The dogs are 11- and 4-year-old Pugs, said Deputy Barbara DeVolve, who is also president of the Putnam Humane Society.

The house was littered with dog droppings, and it was apparent no one had been there for sometime, authorities said.

A notice was posted on the woman's house on April 11 asking her to call the Sheriff's Department, Sheriff Don Smith said. When no one called, a search warrant was obtained.

The dogs were taken to the Humane Society in Carmel, where they were checked by a veterinarian and determined to be OK.

Piehler was released without bail.
