On April 14, Special Agent Paul Lai arrested 39-year-old Bryan Smith for animal cruelty after his basset hound, Archie, was found with a deep head wound.

Allegedly the dog was hit with a beer bottle when Smith was fighting with another person who lived in the apartment on 59th St. in Queens.

Although authorities believe the other person hit the dog, Smith was arrested for failing to get the pooch medical attention, said ASPCA Special Agent Joseph Pentangelo. The investigation into the person who allegedly hit Archie continues.

Archie was brought to the ASPCA hospital, where he is recovering after receiving eight stitches in his head.

Pentangelo said they are hoping to help the dog, who has a sweet disposition, find a new home.
