Bruce Badgerow and his son, Mike, have been charged with animal cruelty. They both deny their animals were neglected.

Last month, hundreds of dead and dying aniamls were found on a farm north of Akron, Iowa.

A veterinarian from LeMars was summoned by the Sheriff's Department to the farm, but the veterinarian said there was little he could do.

The veterinarian said, "They just needed more food and more water. I think we're looking at a case of severe animal abuse and neglect."

A total number of dead animals was 184, including horses, hogs, poultry, rabbits and dogs. A total of 225 live animals were removed and taken to the Sioux City Humane Society to be cared for.

The deaths occurred during the week when Iowa temperatures dropped to 20 degrees or more below 0. The veterinarian stated that "animals did not have adequate shelter, water, or nourishment. Some had frozen appendages before they died. These animal really have suffered tremendously - a lot of agony, a lot of pain. They were released by death."
