Edith Buchko has been cited for inhumane treatment of animals, building code violations, rat investation and general uncleanliness.
The New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, local building and county health officials cited Buchko after finding on Sunday approximately 220 dogs, Shar Peis and Chihuahuas, along with about 200 chickens, 16 mallard ducks and two sheep crowded into small spaces. Approximately 1/3 of the animals were taken off the property.
Edith Buchko said she had been breeding dogs for 20 years. Buchko said she regularly cleaned the animal quarters and that officials were tipped off by a "jealous" breeder envious of her collection of show dogs.
