more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Hoarding - 70 animals
Bedford, EN (UK)

Incident Date: Friday, May 31, 2002

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Doris Aston

When the police visited the Bedford home of Doris Aston, 60, they discovered many animals, some that were ill.

Doris Aston was a former pet shop owner in Bedfordshire. She has been ordered to get rid of most of her 70 animals living in her home.

She lost an appeal against conviction for unnecessary suffering to animals. It means she must now get rid of dozens of animals, including dogs, rabbits, canaries, macaws, guinea pigs, snakes and spider.

Aston said, "It's going to be like choosing which of my children to give away because they are my family, my life."

The authorities found three hamsters in a poor condition suffering from mites fleas, and ulcers and Matey the cat had an eye infection.

Judge Seddon Cripps ordered her to get rid of the extra animals and to pay £650 in costs.

In defense of Ms Aston, she is devoted to her pets and is a treasurer of the Bedfordshire Bird Keepers Society as well as a member of the North Hertfordshire Bird Club.

The RSPCA has said if the animals are turned over to them they will all find homes.
