Three women residing in their rural home Mazon pleaded guilty to charges of failing to register 14 dogs and failing to have the dogs vaccinated for rabies. They were all arrested on March 7.

Hope Shiluk, 47, was fined $60 each on 28 counts of failing to vaccinate and failing to register 14 dogs.

Martha Gierling, 78, and Susan Antonsen, 90, two sisters who lived at the Grinter Road home were fined a total of $1,680 on 28 counts involving the failure to register the dogs. The charges of cruelty to animals that were filed against all three women were dismissed.

Some of the animals taken from their home in March have been adopted by local residents or taken into shelters.

Several of the cats had to be euthanized because of their poor condition.

When the county took possession of the animals on March 7, pets included dogs, cats and many exotic animals. Some of the exotic animals were: a baboon, five foxes, a potbellied pig, birds and an iguana. The authorities said when the animals were seized, the interior the home was covered in filth and animal feces.

Antonsen and Gierling had to leave their home while it was being cleaned. Both sisters were able to go back into the home in early April after the cleaning had been completed.

It is not known how Antonsen and Gierling would pay the fines.
