Latoya Robb was found guilty of animal cruelty in Richmond Circuit Court April 15, 2002. She was fined $500 which must be paid to Boulevard Animal Hospital. She received a 90 day jail sentence which was suspended for 3 years and ordered never to own another animal.

Richmond Animal Control responded to a tip in January, and, with a search warrant, entered Robb's southside apartment January 7, 2002. All utilities had been turned off.  Animal Control found 8 puppies and a mother dog in conditions the defense attorney (not the prosecutor) called, "disgusting...there's nothing I can say."

Robb initially agreed to a plea bargain, but broke into tears during the hearing. Judge Nance allowed her time to compose herself. When Robb returned to the courtroom, the 20-year-old mother of a 2-year and 4-year old decided to plead not guilty.

Robb gtold the judge the mother dog, "Fudge" belonged to her children. She said, "Fudge" had 13 puppies in October and they had run out of luck in "selling them."

In finding her guilty, Judge Nance said, "Anybody living in that apartment is not in touch with reality."

All 8 puppies were treated by Boulevard Animal Hospital and have been adopted. The mother dog is currently at the Richmond Animal Shelter where she has been since January. "Fudge" is awaiting adoption.
