A New Hampshire man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and stabbing her dog in the leg, according to court documents.

David A. Thirsher, 33, of Langdon, N.H., pleaded innocent in Brattleboro District Court to aggravated domestic assault, two counts of domestic assault and one count of cruelty to animals. If convicted, he faces up to 18 years in prison and more than $25,000 in fines.

Thirsher is accused of strangling the woman until she nearly passed out and stabbing her dog in the hind leg with a steak knife, according to court documents. He also allegedly punched the woman in the ribs and hit her with a flashlight, documents state. Thirsher admitted to police that he may have punched the woman in the arm, according to court documents. He also told police that he drinks nine beers a day and the assault could have occurred when he was intoxicated, a police affidavit reads.
