A Waverly man charged with starving and neglected six horses turned himself in on the morning of April 4. Fifty-year-old Dana Persinger appeared in Wood County Magistrate Court and pled not guilty to one count of animal cruelty.
Authorities say Persinger treated six horses so badly they were two to three hundred pounds underweight and worm infested at the time of their rescue. They have all since been adopted.
He was released on a personal recognizance bond. If convicted on the single count, he would face up to $2,000 in fines and six months in jail.
Case UpdatesA Waverly man won't go to jail but he will have to pay fines for starving and neglecting his horses. Police say 50-year-old Dana Persinger neglected seven horses so horribly, one died because of the lack of care. The remaining six were 2 to 3-hundred pounds underweight and worm infested at the time of their rescue.
Persinger pled guilty to one count of animal cruelty. He'll be prohibited from having horses or livestock for the next five years and will have to pay more than $600 in fines.
