more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Cruelty to animals, failure to obtain vet care Richmond, VA (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Jan 10, 2002 County: Richmond City
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Dorothy Jones
On July 4, 2001, Ms. Dorothy Jones called for Animal Control to pick up her dog. She stated it was old and sick and dying. She said she couldn't afford to take it to the vet for euthanasia. Animal Control's Kennel Supervisor did not want the dog to suffer. He agreed to euthanize it. An officer went to her home. Mr. Jones put the dog in my truck, so the officer did not get to look at it closely.
Upon examination, it was found that the dog was covered head to toe with millions of maggots. The dog was humanely euthanized. It was taken to the state lab at Ivor the next day for a necropsy. Mrs. Jones was charged with cruelty to animals and found guilty on 8/24/01. She received 12 months in jail with 6 months suspended. She appealed the decision and was again found guilty. On 1/10/02, Mrs. Jones received 12 months in jail with 9 months suspended. References« VA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Richmond City County, VA
