9 newborn lambs fatally shot
Westwell, Kent, WA (UK)

Incident Date: Friday, Mar 31, 2006

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A sick gunman shot dead nine newborn lambs with a rifle, police said. A farmer discovered the bloodstained remains of the animals, which had up to three gunshot wounds in the shoulder. Two adult ewes also died of shock as the gunman opened fire on the flock.

Det Sgt Matt Renwell, of Kent police, said: "This was a barbaric act of animal cruelty that was inflicted on defenceless animals that were only a few weeks old. Someone must know who is responsible for this sickening act. Perhaps they know of someone who went out in that area that night with a rifle." The attack, which is being treated as a one-off, was in the village of Westwell, near Ashford.
