Hoarding - 87 dogs in single unit trailer
Bass River, NB (CA)

Incident Date: Saturday, Jan 13, 1996

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Name Undisclosed

When an unidentified elderly man collapsed in the local Post Office and was taken to the hospital. Authorities went to his home, it was at that time they found 87 dogs in a state of total neglect living in his single unit trailer.

After the horrible discovery of all the dogs in a small trailer the SPCA was called. The officers said it is the worse conditions they had ever seen.

Seventy of the dogs had to be destroyed, 5 escaped outside but are still on the trailer park and the remainder of the dogs and puppies are being put up for adoption.

The SPCA warns the any one in the public that would like to adopt the dogs, they are very traumatized and it will probably take a long time before they become comfortable around humans.

Conditions in the trailer are so bad the SPCA officials are reluctant to enter the trailer unless absolutely necessary due to the horrific stench.

The owner is in the hospital after suffering a stroke in the post office. He is not able to speak at the moment. He was an amateur dog breeder for several years, mainly of large dogs. The authorities are not sure if he will be charged due to his medical condition, but charges are still being considered.
