more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Dog starved - sticks, grass, corn cob in stomach Omaha, NE (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Nov 30, 2005 County: Douglas
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Martina Herrera
An Omaha woman will serve two days in jail for letting her American Eskimo dog starve to death.
Martina Herrera, 30, was convicted of misdemeanor animal cruelty. A veterinarian with the Nebraska Humane Society testified that the adult dog had no muscle mass and weighed less than 10 pounds when it died; it should have weighed between 20 and 35 pounds. A necropsy revealed sticks, a dry corncob and grass in the dog's stomach, said Mark Langan, vice president of field operations for the Nebraska Humane Society. Officials had discovered the dead dog in Herrera's yard, 2117 Bancroft St., in December 2005
Herrera stated at trial that a medical problem prevented her from feeding the dog, and she left it up to her children, ages 4 through 9, to feed it. On March 27, 2006, Douglas County Court Judge Stephen Swartz found Herrera guilty of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Herrera was sentenced to two days in jail and two years of probation, and was ordered not to have mammals as pets, said Assistant City Prosecutor Mike Getty.
