Eight puppies were left in a bag in the freezing cold. The weather could have killed them, but now they're getting a second chance at life. Paula Evans operates the Second Chance Humane Society in Johnstown. She has eight new additions to her family, NBC 4's Barbra Flannigan reported.
Evans found the shivering puppies inside a bag dumped next to her vehicle. "There sat eight puppies in a tote. It was filled with vomit. They were very scared," Evans said. Three weeks later, the labrador-mix puppies have been nursed back to health. The puppies -- six females and two males -- are about 11 weeks old with chocolate, coal and white spotted coats. "Overall, they are very healthy and ready to find their new homes," Evans said.
Potential owners must meet certain standards before taking home a member of the litter. "They have to apply and then we let them come out and visit the animal. Then we make sure the animal fits their home environment. The non-profit organization has a $125 fee, and they spay and neuter all of their animals. "Be responsible. Spay and neuter your pets and then shelters don't get into situations where people just drop them off," Evans said. Second Chance Humane Society: (740) 967-3700
