more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog bound with cable and duct tape
Gillette, WY (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Nov 23, 2002
County: Campbell

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Tomothy Child

Thirty-year-old Timothy Child has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty for wrapping duct tape around the mouth of his Labrador retriever. According to court documents,  animal control officer Bonnie Driskill took the dog November 23rd after she saw its body tightly bound in cable and with duct tape wrapped around its muzzle. The owner had tied the dog outside with a thin, vinyl covered cable that he bought because he thought that would be better for the dog than locking him in a kennel. The puppy was prone to chewing, and the owner was frustrated to the point of putting duct tape over its mouth.

He was fined $180 and ordered to pay $20 in court costs. He will be allowed to keep the dog.

Still, Driskill recommended that Child be allowed to keep the dog.

Driskill said Child has no longer used a muzzle on the dog because it no longer has a problem with chewing.

"I firmly believe that people can be educated in how to take care of their animal. Sometimes they need to be given the options that they didn't realize they had," she said.
