A Bronx man was collared for constantly beating his pooch until it was blind, fracturing the dog's skull in the process, police said.

Laroyal Simmons, 49, was charged with felony animal cruelty after allegedly admitting that he punched his Rottweiler, Sheeba, in the head every day for eight years.

Case Updates

A Bronx man who beat his Rottweiler so badly the dog went blind copped a plea yesterday and will spend the next six months in the pen.

LaRoyal Simmons, 49, who also is barred from contact with animals for the next five years, tortured poor Sheeba for years, authorities said.

"The dog suffered terribly at the hands of his owner," said ASPCA spokesman Joseph Pentangelo. "Sheeba's injuries were so severe that she went blind, and one of her eyes had to be removed."

The agency got a call in February from a tipster who reported an injured dog at 1710 Seward Ave. in the Bronx. Investigators found the emaciated and nearly toothless Rottweiler.

"After Mr. Simmons was interviewed, it became evident that he had been abusing Sheeba for over seven years," Pentangelo said. Simmons is being held at Rikers Island until his June sentencing, while the ASPCA searches for a new home for the battered animal.
